Organic Growth Director.

LONDON · HYBRID FULL-TIME · PERMANENT SENIOR £65–75K + BONUS

This role leads the agency. It is senior and hands-on: one day you're building an organic growth strategy or deep in the data on a difficult SEO problem, the next you're leading a client meeting or managing the team. You'll start close to the founders and take increasing ownership of the agency itself, with a clear route to Head of Agency or Managing Director.

THE ROLE

What you'll do.

DoubleO Lab is an organic growth company with three parts: an agency running SEO and organic growth programmes for clients, software we build ourselves, and original research into how Google and AI search work. Each part feeds the others. You'll lead the agency part.

Lead organic growth strategy and execution

You'll be one of the most senior organic specialists in the business, capable of solving complex client problems on your own.

Develop SEO and organic growth strategies for clients.
Analyse organic performance and identify what's driving growth or decline.
Lead technical, content, authority and on-page SEO strategy.
Conduct and review keyword, competitor, technical and opportunity analysis.
Turn large amounts of data into clear priorities and recommendations.
Build roadmaps and prioritise activity by expected commercial impact.
Work across traditional search and the evolving AI search landscape.
Get hands-on where it counts, particularly on complex or strategically important work.
Review and QA work from the wider team.
Improve how we approach and deliver organic growth across the agency.

You won't personally execute every task on an account. But you should be able to do the work yourself, and step into any account without a founder telling you what needs to happen.

Own senior client relationships

You'll become the senior point of contact across a portfolio of clients.

Lead strategy and performance conversations.
Present recommendations clearly to senior marketing stakeholders.
Challenge clients constructively when a different approach will get better results.
Handle difficult conversations and escalations.
Build trusted, long-term relationships.
Grow accounts where there's a genuine commercial case.
Make sure clients understand what we're doing and why.

Clients should see you as the person they trust with their organic growth, not someone managing the delivery of an SEO retainer.

Lead and develop the team

You'll take increasing responsibility for the people delivering our work.

Managing members of the SEO and Digital PR team.
Running effective 1:1s and performance conversations.
Coaching people and developing their skills.
Setting clear expectations and holding people to them.
Knowing when someone needs more support, and when they need more autonomy.
Reviewing output and holding a high standard.
Supporting hiring as the agency grows.
Building a team that runs without constant founder involvement.

We care about a supportive working environment, and we're equally serious about maintaining high standards.

Think commercially

Great agency work has to work for the client and for the agency. Over time you'll get increasingly involved in:

Client retention and renewals.
Account growth.
Scoping and pricing.
New-business pitches.
Resource and capacity planning.
Account profitability.
Deciding where the agency invests its time.
Making delivery more efficient.

You don't need to arrive with all of this. You do need to be commercially curious and want to learn how the business works.

Help run the agency

This is where we expect the role to evolve. As you get to know our clients, team and way of working, we'll progressively hand you more of the agency. That could include ownership of:

Client portfolio performance.
Team performance.
Resourcing and capacity.
Delivery standards.
Retention and account growth.
Recruitment.
Agency processes.
Revenue and profitability.

The intention is clear: the right person progresses to Head of Agency / Managing Director, and the founders step back from day-to-day agency management and delivery.

What we're looking for.

Probably 7–12+ years in SEO / organic search, most of it agency-side. The exact number matters less than the level you operate at.

Deep SEO knowledge across technical, content and on-page.
A strong understanding of how search strategy connects to commercial outcomes.
Experience developing SEO strategies independently.
Strong analytical skills and confidence with search and performance data.
Experience managing significant client relationships.
Experience presenting to senior stakeholders.
Experience managing and developing people.
Experience reviewing and improving other people's work.
Strong written and verbal communication.
Good commercial judgement.
The confidence to make decisions without waiting for founder approval.
Hands-on curiosity about AI, GEO and the future of organic search. Ideally you've experimented with AI models, agents, automations, Chrome extensions or internal tools.

Digital PR, GEO / AI search, ecommerce or regulated-sector experience is useful, not essential.

The person we're looking for.

We're not looking for someone who has moved so far into management that they no longer want to get into the work. We're not looking for an exceptional specialist with no interest in clients, people or the commercial side either. We're looking for the person in the middle.

You might currently be an SEO Director, Head of SEO, Organic Growth Director or senior agency lead. You're technically strong and still enjoy hard problems, but the bigger picture keeps pulling at you. You want to understand why clients stay. Why they leave. Why one account is profitable and another isn't. How to build a great team. How to make delivery better. How to grow accounts without overselling. And ultimately, how to run an agency.

What success looks like.

First three months. You understand our clients, team and delivery model. You own strategy on several accounts. You've shown you can independently diagnose and solve complex organic growth problems.
Six months. You own senior relationships across a meaningful share of the portfolio, manage members of the team, and carry significant responsibility for delivery quality.
Twelve months. You're running much of the agency's day-to-day, with founders involved where they add particular strategic value, not because the agency depends on them.

From there, a clear route to responsibility for the agency as a whole.

Compensation.

£65,000–£75,000 depending on experience, plus performance-related bonus. We'll pay towards the top of the range for someone who can show they're already capable of substantial client, team and commercial responsibility. As the role progresses towards Head of Agency / Managing Director, compensation and incentives progress with it.
